Mixed Media - 12" x 12" on canvas. I'm having such fun trying new materials. This piece is quite textured, as the canvas is covered with thinset, among other things. At first I thought the thinset was a big mistake...its difficult to paint over, but I kept at it for a couple of weeks, and finally came up with something I liked. I think I might keep going with the thinset and see what may come of it. Have a great weekend!

Hey Cynthia, Like your latest set of paintings. This one has a nice flow, I like all the blues. Missed you on flickr lately. Hope your creative mojo is coming back. -Wesley
Cynthia your latest pieces are a joy to behold. I looked at this piece enlarged and really "felt" the texture.
This piece has texture and wonderful composition...love the oolors. We find our materials or maybe they find us...thinset?!
Great colors! Love the texture. Looks like you are having fun. It shows!
lovely cynthia, what is thinset? i'm sure it's called something else on this side of the atlantic??

Mary Ann...Thanks for your comments, and yes, I think you are right...our materials find us...I've been enjoying your work and and the new materials you are using!
Eve...Thanks for your comments...definitely having fun...looks like you've been having fun too...happy summer!
Elaine...Thanks for your comments! Thinset is cement...the stuff you stick your tiles too if you are tiling a shower or a counter...I'm sure it is called something else on your side of the world!
your texture is wonderful, isn't it fun to try new things? gets you out of your comfort zone and opens new doors!
Cat....You are right about that....we will never get anywhere without trying new things....I'm finding I don't care for this material now, but it was a fun experiment!
Ho Cynthia,
I feel, the search for!!!
i see, the source of inspiration,
i hear, the fun.
Willy....Thank you for those lovely words...a poem of art!
I expect you've already tried this, Cynthia, but you can use acrylic mediums to get the sandy texture of thinset with the bonding properties of paint. If I were going to make your same paintings using acrylic instead of thinset, I'd use Golden's Coarse Molding Paste, followed by their Fine Pumice Gel in order to set up a foundation for the paint.
I love how your mind is always experimenting with new things. Never a dull moment with you!
Lynn...thank you so much for those tips and products. I have now experimented using thinset on 3 small canvases and have decided I don't like the effect, feels like painting on a stucco wall. So, I will have to try out the coarse molding paste and fine pumice gel....sounds cool!
