Ok, I admit it, I'm obsessed with Cy

Cy Twombly  Untitled, 1992

Ever since I learned of Cy Twombly's passing, I have been not only saddened at the lost of such a great artist, but I have found myself scouring the internet daily for images of his work and glimpses of his life.  I fell in love with his sculpture, which was all new to me and his death seems to have affected me in a more profound way than the deaths of other great artists that have occurred in my lifetime.  Maybe these words by Jeff Jahn of Port express my feelings best:
"Yes, somehow this American who lived in Italy since 1957 managed to make art for the long haul... whether patina or paint, scrawl, crayon or blackboard his work exemplifies the palimpsest of time better than any painter or sculptor since. Perhaps Twombly is the glue of 20th century postwar art? Perhaps Twombly was like the river itself rather than the banks, which contained yet always eroded next to its persistence? His work will always inspire me."

There must have been something in the water post-war....Cy, Rauchenburg, Pollack...the list goes on.

Yes, a brave and inspirational artist. Cynthia, I still don't have an email or snail mail address for you.

C- great to be able to scour the net; and be inspired by great artists - both living and dead - and the art can be so simple yet powerful. Go well. B
