MAYA

12" x 12" Mixed Media on Canvas.   The third in my series about "Excavation", this piece has many layers both literally and figuratively.  The title, "Maya" refers to the concept that was introduced by a Hindu philosopher of the ninth century, Adi Shankara.  The term means illusion specifically illusion of the physical reality.  When one reaches spiritual enlightenment, the veil of maya is pierced and ultimately destroyed with true transcendental knowledge.

Interesting idea to use the sharp edges along with the blurry textures. The concept of maya is something about which I had been unaware.
