NEW WORK

Since I have been struggling with mosaic work, I decided to work with paint and mixed media.  I deconstructed this piece from an old collage I did that covered over a painting I did that I did not like.  Later I wished I hadn't covered over the painting....  sigh ....  so as I was trying to get down to the original painting underneath, I decided to leave part of the collage that remained and added some paint.  Not sure if this piece is finished or not, but I thought I would leave it set for a day or two, and work on a couple of other canvases.  I am having fun working with paint and collage and mixed media on canvas, so I think I will do this for now and see what happens next.

I'm having a break from mosaics, too. This collage is lovely - I love the texture.

I think the stopping and putting it aside is the key to knowing if it's done or not. This art making requires clever thinking and planning. I like the collage pieces as seen between the paint.

It's mysterious, and brings to mind glimpses of strangers in the rain. All the better for the unexpected collage elements.

Hi Mise....thank you for stopping by and for your nice comments!

hi cynthia,

i really like this... it feels free and alive to me. it seems to me that collage/mixed media are tailor made for getting one through an uncertain creative time. i always feel that anything goes, so i'm off and flying before i know it! gradually i always seem to find myself back at drawing and coloring/painting, which, i think, are my favorite things...

thank you for your nice comment over at my place. : )

Hi Lynne...thanks for visiting and for you comments. I am enjoying collage/painting and you are right it does feel freeing. I am so use to mosaics where once you do something it is permanent, but with painting/collage...you can just cover over what you don't like.... the process is so much more fluid...its a nice change

go where the fun is!! I really like this piece and I see it as a metaphor, the crusty paint encompassing the bodies, just wonderful!

Glad to hear you are following your heart Cynthia. I have enjoyed your mosaics and I know you'll be back eventually.

Sometimes the key to finding inspiration in one art form is to switch to another. Polymer clay is my escape from glass.

Just keep creating.

This is really compelling. The contrast from black to white is very striking.

Eve...thanks for your encouragement and that is good advice...I realized I was stuck in the "I can only work on one medium at a time" mode, so now I am realizing I can mix it up....

Seth...thanks for visiting and for your nice comments!

I often cover up parts of collages and paintings and go back to them later-- and often the break of time helps-- seeing the painting with new eyes often tells me what to do next.

Donna....thanks so much for the advice...yes, I seem to be doing that more...just leaving a piece...but I have never tried covering up parts to get a new look...I will give that a try..

I also like this one. The glimpse of faces within the abstract is exciting.
